Transformers and stuff

So we took the kids to see Transformers on the 4th. They've been wanting to see it so badly, and we decided to go late when everyone would be in bed for work Thursday.

All I can say is it's a really good....commercial. That's basically all it is. One giant commercial. And Bumblebee as a stupid Camaro? If they were going to change him from a bug they could have at least made him something cool, like a TA. But, since it was mainly a GM commercial(and they forked out a lot for it), I guess they couldn't go using Pontiacs. The plot isn't even original, it's got about the dumbest story line I've ever seen, and I swear the all-spark thing was totally stolen from Star Trek- as anyone who has ever seen the Borg will immediately know upon seeing Transformers. It's like they put together as crappy a storyline as they could get away with, just counting on the effects to carry the movie- which, they ARE doing, and doing well.

The effects were fantastic though, and I'd see it again just for those.

An old friend got in touch with me the other day, one of my best friends ever, who moved to AZ after getting out of the Navy. His mom hates me and has always said he never wanted to hear from me, but that's not true. I'm really happy to have gotten back in touch with him.

In other news, it's hot like hell here, and I think I'm going to go swimming.

Please don't leave a message telling me how wrong I am about the movie, I don't care what you think about it, and you aren't going to change my mind. I didn't leave ranty messages in anyone's LJ who loved the movie, so have the same respect, or I'll delete your message, thanks. I'm using all my tolerance on the kid I've been babysitting, and I have none left for anything else.

I'm sorry, that just TOTALLY cracked me UP!

Gurl, you hate that movie as much as you WANT. I support your right to your own opinions, completely and totally.

At least it was good to make you laugh! Seriously though, I hate when I dare to post my opinion of a movie in my own LJ and people leave crappy messages about it.

But hey, I didn't HATE it, I just thought the story was horrible, mostly. The effects are really, incredibly awesome though.

I get really disturbed by people who don't get that movies like this ARE giant commercials/formulas to sell things- whether it be a product or an ideology or an idea. Scares me.

And the effects usually are cool.

It's blistering here too.

Yeah, I know what you mean- but usually, it's a lot more subtle than it was in this movie. I can't remember ever having seen more blatant examples of product placement. It was awful.

Yeah, the effects were really just beyond cool. I mean, who DOESN'T love giant transforming robots from outer space?!

Yes, apparently the movie producers went to Volkswagon but VW did not want to pay a bajillion dollars for them to put the bug into the picture. So, yeah...that's why the camero is in there. Lauren and Owen *hugs*

Yeah, it's a shame that VW was expected to PAY to have Bumblebee be what he's always been. I hate people. And I really, really hate Camaros.

I have heard various rumors as to why Bumblebee isn't a VW Bug and Jazz isn't a Porsche, including that VW/Porsche didn't want to be associated with a war-themed movie. I also heard the one about GM coughing up plenty of money.

My brother used to be really into Transformers and he had a fit when he saw all the stuff they changed. I know he looked into it, and as far as I know, verified the GM forking out a lot of money. It's certainly not as though it's unlikely, or surprising. Pathetic, yes.

The movie makers probably got the offer from GM and THEN approached the other companies, like 'hey, GM is going to give us X amount of dollars for us to use a bunch of GM crap, can you top it?' and when the other companies rightly said 'fuck off', they proceeded with the GM. It just seems like something people like that would do.

Ok, I had a few issues. But I did see it twice and do want to get this bad boy on Blu-Ray when it becomes available.

*Spoiler alert*

Pros:

-Blackout attacking the AFB at the beginning...awesome!!

-I liked the Bumblebee sequence with the various songs involving Megan Fox.

-Hell, all of the battles!

Cons:

-John Turturro's character. Man, he needed to go!! Honestly, a government agent?!? He didn't even provide comic relief!!!

-Prime has lips? The faceplate looks much cooler!!! Lips?!?

-It seemed somewhat embarrassing seeing some of these Autobots using modern slang. "My bad"? Come now, Prime. Lead by example and influence Jazz.

-The leading kid did get annoying at times. And there's no way he would get such a hottie!

-Maybe this is knit-picking, but when the All Spark/Borg Cube shrank down to something managable...shouldn't that be very heavy? I know...suspend my disbelief.

I can add another con- that girl is a totally ugly SKANK. What happened to cool, strong female characters? Give me Ripley over some nasty skank like that girl any day.

Oh, that could never be. Ripley would have been manlier than the leading male.
